Defra and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) published a policy paper on Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) on 1 September. This can be read here. FMPs will be evidence-based action plans, developed in collaboration with the fishing sector and other stakeholders. Their purpose is to deliver sustainable fisheries for current and future generations. The paper sets out what FMPs are, and how the plans will work. A final list of plans will be published with the Joint Fisheries Statement. The paper lists the six frontrunner FMPs which are already underway and being developed. If you want to get involved with a specific FMP then contact one of the delivery partners listed in the paper. For information on the FMP Programme more broadly contact Defra’s FMP team by email FMPs@defra.gov.uk.
