On the 4th & 5th Feb, the Inshore and Small-Scale Fisheries Consortium in partnership with AIFCA held a National Symposium for Inshore and Small-Scale Fisheries.
The event held in Newcastle was attended by 120 participants including 50 fishermen, fishing organisations, IFCA officers and members, policymakers and scientists to come together to find viable solutions to secure inshore fishing livelihoods.
The event was a platform for fishermen to explain the particular challenges faced by small-boat operators and, through dialogue with government, distil workable solutions.
Many ideas were generated, framed around 7 priority themes which emerged in regional workshops in Poole and Whitby in autumn 2024.
